The Project uses Octopus as an indicator species for marine health, with fisher people collecting data on octopus catch rates and size. Community data feedback sessions are then used to build community support and understanding for the setting of size catch limits and temporary no take fishing zones. Temporary no take zones - areas where fishing is temporarily not allowed - help fishing stocks replenish, having a positive benefit on fishing communities future catch levels and livelihoods. The project aims to develop a rotation of no take zones benefitting both people and marine species.
